MERGING PINES MEDICAL CENTER - NORTH TRURO, CAPE COD, MA

Emergency Room

The task of this healthcare project was to design a three floor Community Healthcare Center that included an emergency department, an urgent care clinic, a short-term rehabilitation center, and a specialty floor of the designer’s choosing. The building is to be sustainable and promote a sense of community as well as fostering an environment that promoted healing and independence all supported by evidence-based design

The concept of this healthcare building is a Pine Tree because it represents strength and support as well as movement, growth, and peace which are all beneficial qualities in a hospital that can help in the healing process. Thus, Merging Pines Medical Center was developed with a shared ER and Urgent Care on the first floor, short-term rehab rooms and a PT/OT office on the second floor, and lastly, a cancer treatment center on the third floor with a healing garden. The building encourage easy communication between staff and patient while also remaining comfortable with the use of natural light and visual access to natural
